I've been trying to figure out for months now, with no luck.

Can anyone tell me what years an 89 700R4 will work in? I thought 90-92 had an electronically driven speedometer, so it won't work, right? Or will it? Will it work down to 87?

It'll work in any year, you'll just have to change the speedometer gears and housing.

 

So that is what you wanted to know. Why didn't you say that?

 

Ok, well what about the connector with the different number of prongs? I know this tranny wouldn't work in a 93 Z28. And yes, all 93s are non-electronic...

You said this trans will work in all years...Does that mean all years except 93? I know for a fact it will not work in 93 F-Bodies.

I'm just trying to get this figured out, sorry if I am coming across as impatient...

There is just a lot of conflicting information on the boards.

First, someone told me that an 89 transmission will not work in my 93 Z28 because the 4/5 prong connector issue. This was by someone who actually encountered this problem.

Then, someone tells me it will work in all years. BUT, then what about the 4/5 prong connection issue? It would be alot simpler if 4L60Es had the 5 prong, and 4L60/700R4s had the 4 prong. But with my 93 Z28, the 4L60/700R4 appears to have the 5 prong connector.

And this tranny will work in a later model F-Body that has an electronically driven speedo? I just need to change the speedo gear housing?
