Hi My t5 in a iroc is having some issues. All of my gears will work exceprt for third when I engage it to third gear and let the clutch out it sounds like the gear is grinding and pounding I also noticed that since this happened it sounds like something is clanging in the trans and speeds up as the rpms speed up this is in every gear.But the shifter is going into third and it isnt throwing it back at me when I release the clutch or anything like that it is just like I lost third or that third gear has exploded. Any info on this will be greatly helpfull. thank you

 

It sounds like the teeth on either the 3rd gear, or the 3rd gear side of the 3-4 slider have worn out. Most likley on the 3-4 slider. I assume you can still shift in and out of 4th gear without problems so, it is not a shifter issue. At the very least, you will need to drop the transmission and remove the top cover. Once done, your problem should be clearly visible. Does 3rd gear engage at all, despite these noises?

 

How does it feel going into gear with the engine turned off?

On my buddy's Mustang T5, with the engine off and the clutch in it would shift into all gears smooth as butter, but when driving 2nd would grind and wouldn't go in. It turned out to be a bent shift fork that wasn't engaging 2nd gear completely.

 

it was the gears on the top shaft and on the lower shaft are chewd up that third gear uses I guess I am going to do a 350 turbo swap now. So that leaves alot of t5 swap stuff for sale. Thanks guys for the replies
