Having trouble finding the right VSS for T5 swap

Ok, i'm putting a T5 from an 85 bird into my 90 RS. The 85 bird used a cable speedo. My RS uses an electronic speedo.
I tried to order an electronic VSS for a 90 RS and the sensor they gave me way too big. It had like a 2" diameter. The cable speed sensor is only 1" in diameter.

My question...did GM change the tailshaft and sensor housing when they changed to the electronic speedo's????????? Or should the 2 be interchangeable???

Hey, I have the electronic deal in my cable driven 88 IROC (the tranny is a T-5 out of a 91 Z). I noticed the opening is way too small for the cable driven speedo drive I have. Do u have a cable speedo drive that will fit the small hole? I have the small VSS that u're looking for but I need the cable drive unit in exchange. Also, the tranny is in my car so I can't remove the VSS unless I have the cable drive unit ready to go in.

Is the one you have from your 700R4?? The VSS for automatics are like twice the diameter.

Yes, i do have a cable driven VSS from an 85 T5. It's about 1 inch in diameter. Would you be willing to trade??

EDIT: You know what, i'm not sure if this would work because i think the VSS is set up depending on the rear gear ratio. The VSS i have is from a car with 3.42's.

The VSS is the same no matter what the gear ratio is. You put whatever speedo gears on it, and that makes it correct. However, make sure you get the right sensor, 4000 pulses or 2000 pulses. I know the MAF TPI uses 2000 pulses and the SD TPI uses 4000 pulses, but I forget on the V6's and TBI's.

OK, well my T-5 is out of a 91 Z so that would make it a SD then. The gear on the VSS is either tan or white colored, and yes I have the cable speedo drive from a 700R4.

CaliCamaro, is your car MAF or SD? I don't know the rear end ratio of the car that the VSS came from, but I'm hoping that it's color coded like the auto versions. What color is the gear on the cable speedo drive you have?

My car is SD. The gear on the cable VSS is tan/white color. It's from a MAF V6 car.
