What is that hose on top off the 700R4?

What is that hose on top off the 700R4?
Today I was looking at my old tranny and I noticed a small hose running out of the top of it. It was never connected when I pulled the tranny. What does this hose do and what is it supposed to be connected to?
BTW On both my trannies its just a 5 inch pigtail and I can see no place to plug it into.
If I made any sense at all can somebody please help me out on this. Thanks,
