Anybody rebuild a 9 bolt limited slip?
My 9 bolt had a bad seal and bearing and the posi was week (I could overpower it by grabbing the tire with my hand and pushing), so I figured that while I had it apart I’ll rebuild it.
I’ve got it in a million pieces on my bench right now, and have been playing with some cardboard shims to determine what size shims I need before I go out and get them. I tried the measuring procedure listed in the FSM and I’m completely out of range for their shim recommendations. Doing it as per the instructions in the tech section, looks like I’ll need something between .055” and .080” on each side (I know, that’s a big range, but remember, I’m just mocking it up to figure out what I’m going to need).
Does that sound a bit insane for a posi that was working but weak when it was pulled out (heating the tires at the track I got 2 wheeled burnouts about 70% of the time, but I did have a few 1 wheel ones).

From the instructions for rebuilding it:
“If a friction cone is worn to the point where the end of the cone is contacting the housing at the inner most point (it will be evident by the wear pattern) then the carrier must be replaced.”
Does anyone know if they mean the inside end of the cone, or the machined high spot inside the recessed part of the nose of the cone? I don’t have any wear pattern in the first location, but I do in the second. Seating the thing in the housing it does seem to easily make positive contact with the cone surfaces and the housing.
