Hydraulic clutch conversion question.

First post here, been cruising for awhile and seems like a good group here and figured I'd give my problem a shot on your friendly site. Enough wind up the skirt?

I'm putting a 3.4 with 5 speed into a Datsun Roadster and have a small trans tunnel to deal with. The stock bellhousing with accompanying slave mount is too wide. Is it possible to convert it over to the 97 and up style internal slave/TO type? This would allow me to take off the mounting ears and move the engine/trans back significantly. I'm not opposed to swapping input shafts if that's what is required. Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion question.

Why not use a hydraulic throw-out bearing ? That eliminates the need for the slave and pivot arm altogether.

Thanks for the reply Sonix. That's pretty much my question. Can I use the hydraulic TOB with my current trans? Just by replacing the pivot arm, slave and TOB with the hydraulic unit (including master). Is the Input shaft interchangeable? Some models use a pin of some sort to keep the hydro TOB from spinning, does the 93 T5 have provisions for this pin? I've also seen a version that doesn't require the pin. Could it be as simple as using the Hydro TOB instead of pivot arm type?

Sorry for all the questions, but if I can use this set-up, it will solve lots of problems for me.

Thanks again.

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion question.

Find the right TO bearing. Check howe racing, I think they have one for the T-5. It uses a bolt (pin) to keep it from spinning. just replaces a tranny-bellhousing bolt I believe.

Then yea, you just remove your slave and plumb the piping into the hydraulic TO bearing. Easy as pie.
