How much fluid for a 85 T5??

I got a T5 out of an 85 v8 camaro, and im wondering how much fluid to put in it. Ive read/heard anywhere from 2.5, 3, and way more liters. I got a book and it says for the 5 speed like almost 10 liters i swear i think it said, or maybe it was 7 or so.. Either way, i asked a parts store and they looked it up and said 3 liters.. Can anyone confirm for sure how much to put in? I also heard to fill it til it starts leaking out?

Re: How much fluid for a 85 T5??

3L sounds about right, but you don't need to know the exactly amount. There are two drain plugs on your trans. One at the bottom to drain the old fluid out, and one about halfway up the side to fill the trans. The reason it is only halfway up the side, is because you fill the trans with fluid untill it gets to the bottom of that hole and starts to come out - thats when its full. Put that plug back in, wash your hands, call it a day.
