T56 identification

I've heard that the best way to tell the difference between the '94-'97 t56 and the '93 t56 is by looking for the skip shift solenoid on the '94 and up. Is this true? Where exactly is the skip shift solenoid located? Is it on the drivers side of the trans near the shifter hole?
thanks,
Chris
