ok i have a 83 z28 with a 400 sbc and a 700r4 which is a 89. i just changed the front pump and now i have no movement in any gears. any soulutions as what might be wrong. thanks

Did you line up the converter and the pump drive tangs? Did you feel it drop into place? Did you have freeplay between the flywheel and the converter? Did it spin freely before you bolted it to the flywheel? If there is no movement whatsoever you likely damaged the pump on assembly.

 

i lined everything up just right and the converter spun freely befor i put the tranny in and also when it was in place in the car just befor i bolted the converter up to the flywheel. every thing apears normal. i mean the pump is pumping cause it circulated the fluid in the tranny and i had to add more. so i am at a loss as what it could be.

OK then let's back up (no pun intended). Why did you replace the pump in the first place? When you say that it doesn't move, you mean Forward and Reverse, right?

 

the reason i had to change the pump is this. on fourth of july i was driving the car and the front pump seal popped out, it didnt have a metal retaining ring. so i pulled the tranny and put a new seal in and when i was putting the tranny in the converter and the pump werent lined up and i didnt realize it and broke the two taings off the pump.so i had do change the pump. it acts like it is in neutral in all gears. but u can here it click into each gear when u move the shifter but there is nothing. hope that helps

well i think i figured what the problem is, i used the torque converter off the tranny i got the pump from and that is a 30 spline and mine is a 27 so i have to change converters and theni will let u know how things go. thanks

A 30 spline will go where a 27 was but not the other way. Also, the pump for a 30 and 27 spline is different, so...
