Car: 89' GTA,98' z28
Engine: 350tpi/ls1/ls6
Transmission: 700r4/4L60e
Axle/Gears: BW 3.27/3.42
gearing change.

how can i tell if i have a series III or II 7.5 rearend? i am new to this rearends thing and wanna switch out what i believe is stock 2.73's. kid told me 3.08's when i bought it, but i found out today they are not when i did the wheel spin test. i want 3.42s. auto, drum. let me know thanks.

never mind read it wrong. so now a new question. i seen it says specific ring gears higher then 3.08 will fit my carrier how. do i know which ones they are. or should i just get a new carrier?

You have a 2 series differetnial. You can get a special thick 3.42 that will fit on it. The price is slightly higher, but cheaper than getting a new differetnial. If you need help finding parts let me know.

thank you. Very good sticky. i had read that and that was the reason for the post i just read it wrong at first. now i am just trying to figure out where and what to look for when buying a new ring and pinion for mine. thank you again
