Yep. It'll bolt right in.

The DRIVESHAFT is a bolt-in BUT the front yoke (if it's the long one with the 3" harmonic balancer) is too long for a T-5.
You'll have to take apart the front u-joint and put on your T-5 yoke if that's the case.

There is no aluminum '97 T56 DS... (I own a '97 T56 car, a WS6 TA).

In '97 they came with a steel driveshaft. There was a TSB that suggested replacing the DS in the case of a vibration at speed. That TSB required that a 3rd gen 1LE aluminum driveshaft be installed (so of course it will fit).

Otherwize, someone may have stuck an aftermarket aluminum drive shaft or a '98 and up one in it (I wouldn't use the '98 and up one, there have been some reports of breakage), and it fitting would depend on what it actually is.

Like I already said, it's not a stock DS (there is no such thing as a stock ’97 f-body aluminum DS, they’re all steel) and whether it works is entirely dependant on what it is. The yolk should fit, but that doesn’t mean that the DS will. I know that my custom made Denny’s DS that I’ve got in my ’97 will not fit in my ’87, but the # of splines on the yolk would be fine. If it has the factory steel DS (or the yolk from it) I hear it will not work because the yolk has a damper on it that would get in the way (never seen an aftermarket one with it though).

It doesn't matter if it's steel or aluminum... the actual DRIVESHAFT will fit.
The T-56 yoke - if it has a 3" balancer on it, WILL NOT FIT... It's too long. It's $150 piece (new) just for that yoke. You'll have to swap it... which means taking apart the front u-joint... simple as that.
see 3rd gen pic.

see 4th gen (t-56) pic.
