th-350 3 speed or 4????

i have a 327/350hp in a 84 s10 its configured with a quicksiver b&m rachet shifter now i met the guy who put the trans in the truck and he told me it could be mad a 4 speed and had a pump or something diconected on it cause when its in drive its only in third gear. no i want to know if there is any truth to this because i want a 4th gear and i dont want to lose this trans because of its strength its built and shifts hard and if theres something i can do so i wont lose this trans i want to do it ive heard bad things about 700r4s

There is no way to make a 350 into a 4 speed. Perhaps he was talking about swapping in a 700?

The only thing I've seen to give a TH-350 a forth gear, is a transfer type box that bolts up to the tail housing. Very pricey !!! I think you can accualy get it to act as if it has 6 gears, since I think you can lower the output at any gear.

maybe he's thinking about a TH-350C (the one with the lockup converter?). I've seen people confuse the TC lockup for another gear before.

The overdrive unit mentioned is from Gear Vendors in El Cajon, CA, and runs about $2500. I seriously doubt it would fit in a 3rd gen without major modification to the tunnel.

I also doubt you'll find anyone who would swap a TH350 for a TH700, but you can try posting such a proposition on the classifieds on this board.
