My original tranny has 210,148 original miles on it. i dont know if it is worth rebuiding this beat up tranny or buying a used one i found for $350 with 70,000 miles on it. what do u think

guess it all comes down to cost and the warrenty that comes with them. sometimes paying more is the better bargin.

The only reason you couldn't rebuild a trans is if the case is screwed up (inside or outside). I asked about a junkyard trans (to rebuild in my spare time), the wrecker told me $250- and that's not the place I go to all the time, either. I think you could do better than $350. Remember you'll also need the torque convertor- when a tranny dies, it spits metal shavings thru everything- including your torque convertor, and the trans cooler lines (go to the passenger side of your car's radiator). If you put your old TC on a working trans, you'll be shooting metal filings thru the good trans.
I agree with ede, but if you don't have the cash, you could always put the junk one in, and save yours to rebuild it later. What year is the 70,000 mile one from? If it's from 84, DON'T BUY IT. If it's from 85-86, be cautious of it. (Remember too you need one that came off a 2.8 V6, the V8 trans has too large of a case.)
