350 t5?

sorry i cant seem to find a definitive answer.

i currently have a 91 z28 with a 305 and t5. i have a 350 im waiting to drop in because i was under the impression that you needed a t56 to back it up cause the t5 couldnt handle the torque. ive read a bunch of threads that say you need a t56 but also a fair number that say they have used a t5 with no problems. what kind of life can i expect from my t5 if i were to put in the 350? should i wait for the t56? i would do the swap tomorrow if you guys say the t5 will work but it is an everyday driver so i cant really afford to blow a tranny.

thanks

Life really depends on how you drive. Normal care should be sufficient for the T5 to last a good long time (mine has). Hotrod the car and you risk ruin.

Re: 350 t5?

You've got a WC T5, so that's one thing going in your favor. Basically you can't drive the car hard. No powershifting. Get an aftermarket shifter that has stops to prevent you from overshifting. Take care of the T5 and it will take care of you. Abuse it and it will fail. If you want a trans you can bang gear with then a T56, Tremec, or G-Force T5 is a necessity if you want it to live.

Re: 350 t5?

i really want to do the swap. so it will live if i only push it occasionally? thats going to be hard but i really want the 350. i could just use it till it blows then use that as a reason to get the t56...ya ya i like that thanks guys

Re: 350 t5?

Yeah, don't powershift it. You can floor it and smoke the tires and all that stuff, but don't powershift it. It will probably live a long time like that actually, because you'll never shock load it enough to break it.
