Clutch sizing/effectivness question.

My stock T5 clutch is 10.5" and uses a 153th flywheel IIRC. I'm thinking of converting it to a 168th flywheel. What size clutch do they use..11" or 12"? Also, how much grip advantage does a larger one really have?

as my wife always says bigger really is better. do the math, you gain a lot more surface area going from 10.5 to 12" the preasure plate also is part of the whole system. i'd run the biggest i could in a mc leod clutch

They use an 11" clutch. And they won't fit in a stock F-body bell housing.

Well I guess that answers that. Out of curiosity..what does the 12" clutch I've seen listed fit?

Jester, that's a truck clutch, I used one in a '67 Camaro some years back, a 6cyl to 302 swap. That monster flywheel hurt my throttle response quite a bit, but it did cut down my rpm drop at launch.
It also required a bigger bellhousing, and a bellhousing-mounted starter.
That was 20-odd years ago, and I used it because I had it laying around the garage, and I was looking for all the clamping force I could get! I have to wonder, though, if the mass of that flywheel contributed to breaking the crankshaft in that engine... I replaced it with a 350 and a standard clutch setup, with much-improved throttle response. The 350 actually revved faster than the 302 with the heavy flywheel (with the same intake & cam!)

Yah, 153 tooth is the biggest flywheel that will fit in a T5 bellhousing. Get a McLeod 11" clutch and be happy.
