Leave the four bottom bolts in and tight, get everything else loose from the trans and with a jack under it try to jack it up and get at the bolts from the top or (with the cross member removed) let the trans and engine lean down and access the bolts from the bottom. You'll have to watch the distributor cap and other things as you move the engine up or down.

Also try to use a few long extensions and a wobble to get the bolts from behind the tranny. This works for me.

Pull the distributor out first before it gets broke. Have the jack on the back of the tranny with a little pressure on it. Unbolt the crossmember and lower the tranny. Get a few extensions with a wobbly on the socket and take out the top bolts. Oh yeah, take the driveline out before you take off the crossmember.

i have found that a 4 foot extension and a swivel 15mm socket work extremely well. the socket is about 4 bucks at a local parts store and has saved me countless headaches when we pull our trans. the socket has a small head and the swivel is built in to it.
