funny acting overdrive

i just finished installing a motor in my 85 z28. i went with a 1980 305 with some mods i had laying around i kept the 700 r4 that was in it. my question is the 1 2 3 shifts are good when it hits 4th the rpms drop dramaticaly and then slowly rises back up also i had to install a non computerized lock up kit and a new kickdown cable cause i went to carb. any ideas?

Do you have a carb meant for a 700 or a 350?

Yes it does make a difference. The pull point will not be correct to give you the proper geometry. You see, the 350 kickdown cable just has two jobs; part throttle 3-2 and WOT KD. It has a modulator for pressure control and shift delay. The 700 does everything through the TV cable and it is very precise. It has more travel than the 350 because of these differences. I do believe you can get an adaptor for your linikage though.
