Do you have to hook up the wiring for the tranmision to work??Will it go into 4th gear or not??Will not hooking it up cause the transmission to fail??

I am in the same boat. I just aquired a 700R4 and want to install it in a car that was originally equipped with one but currently has a TH-350. The wiring for the TC lockup is still in my car as well, but I also don't have the fuel injection system anymore. Mine is a non computer controlled carb setup. The computer is still in the car but I would like to know what happens to my trans if in fact the computer needs some kind of input from the engine end to work the trans correctly. Could this burn up the trans? how would I know that it isn't acutually locking up when it should be?
Yes you sound like you are going through the same tranformation I am.I pulled my 350 tranny out of mine when it lost second gear. Then I ran across an Iroc for a song so I pulled the tranny out of it to put in my 88 RS.I have put it in the car but have not hooked up the detent or lockup.I have put it in drive and reverse and seems ok.I will let you know if it works or not hooking it up.I think I may try it this weekend. Thanks for all the replies though.
