Shifting problem, auto trans
I have a problem with my trans (auto), thats kinda hard to explain. If your familiar with the way a trans shifts when its low on fluid, thats exactly the way my car shifts. I have topped off the fluid so thats ok, there is no leaks on the garage floor, so nothings leaking, and have adjusted the kickdown cable properly. It still shifts "hard". The only thing i can think of is that the rear end (BW 9" 3.27) has a leak and i havent gotten around to fixing. Is it possible that since the rear end is probably wicked low on fluid, that it would make it feel like the trans is shifting wrong?
Any help would be appreciated since i dont want to drive the car much unitll i fix the problem.

Re: Shifting problem, auto trans
did you just recently get the car? It could be that a previous owner installed a shift kit. This makes the car more fun. Go find someplace to drive it flat out through first gear, like up an on-ramp to an interstate. If it chirps the tires going into second, like a performance automatic should, then it probably has a mild shift kit. If it's even more brutal, making the whole rear of the car step to the side, then it's probably an even better shift kit. Enjoy!

By the way, keep the go-pedal to the floor until after it upshifts into second, this test doesn't work if you lift. Real racers never lift to shift. (Unless the cops are around)(Forget that Fast/Furious BS)

Also, i have tried the foot to the floor thing, and if i keep it to the floor, the car shifts to second at the end of the rpm range (like way past redline). I was under the impression the car should have shifted prior to the redline. Thats what made me start fooling with the TV cable.
Re: Shifting problem, auto trans
The rear end has nothing to do with the shifts here. Did you just get this vehicle? If it "shifts" way past redline, then most likely a wrong governor. DO NOT try to fix this by adjusting the TV cable. The TV cable must be tight or to within a 1/16" of being tight at WOT. To try to adjust it so solve a problem will in most cases burn up the transmission. Do you know what year the transmission is? Put fluid in the rear end, otherwise you will pay dearly. Hard shifts are not good for the unit. Quick shifts are all you want or need. At WOT (if it is going to lay rubber) the transmission should get rubber from horsepower and not from how hard the transmission can be made to shift.
