So I bought an 88 T-5 for my 1LE this weekend. It has a cable driven speedo and my car has electronic (VSS). Who makes the adaptor for such an installation? Thanks in advance for any replies.

 

Go to AutoZone or somthing and ask them to PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE order all of the possible VSSs for your 88 tranny and pick out the one that fits in the hole and buy it. I did that and it worked great.

BTW: Make sure you use the right driven gear. I would go to a GM dealer and double check the colors and maybe order the correct one.

Wait, what trans do you have now? If its a T5, just take your VSS from your trans and put it in the other one.

If you have a 700R4 now, then you'll need to get the new one from GM or the auto parts store, like above. Or check the classifieds, sometimes people have extra ones for sale.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just order the correct part number from AutoZone or GM ?? If you do a search on this board there's a post with the part numbers for it.

I forgot to mention the year. What I'm trying to do is replace my 91 auto for an 88 T5. I know my 91 is an electric speedo and the 88 I bought is a cable driven. What do I need to do so my speedometer will function properly? Thanks guys

 

So can anyone help with the info on parts I'll need? I should be able to re-use my driveshaft, I need a new starter, x-member...I've swapped my pedal assembly. So for my tranny and speedo, what would I need going from a 91 auto/elec to a 88 manual/cable?? Thanks in advance,

 

Hey Mubie, it seems as if FAITH has brought us together, I have a 91 WC T-5 with VSS, and I need a T-5 MECHANICAL SPEEDO assembly, do you want to just SWAP? It will benifit us both .
