price on t-5 rebuild
I am wanting to get a T-5 rebuilt I have the kit for it bought from Gearbox the master kit or whatever and I pulled the transmission out of my parts car 83' z28 to get it rebuilt and put in my 85' Z28.
I called a few places to see how much to get it rebuilt and one place said $225 another place said anywhere from $275-$350 depends on what else it needs and the last place said $400-$500 if I have all the parts for it.
If I already have a rebuild kit for it then why would it cost $500 to get it rebuilt unless the guy is charging $100/hour for shop time.
Would it be better to go for the cheapest which is almost a hour away or go to the most expensive guy.

Re: price on t-5 rebuild
A T5 requires about 4 hours of labor to properly rebuild if you know what you're doing. The going rate for labor alone is around $250. Now, what the one shop said is 100% correct; it depends on what else needs to be repalced. Just because you have a rebuild kit doesn't mean you have all the parts you need. If gears are damaged, shift forks, etc. it is going to cost more, and in my opinion to tear a trans down and put it back together in any condition other than like it just left the factory is a waste of time.
