TKO vs. T-56 dilemna

I currently have a two piece rear main block, standard bellhousing, 14'' flywheel with a 4 speed transmission. I need overdrive. The t-56 ($2300)is going to require finding a 1982-83 t-5 bellhousing to use my mechanical clutch linkage, plus x-member mods, provisions for a mechanical speedo etc. The TKO ($1958)from forte's is pretty much bolt-in except for driveshaft shortening.T-56 is 6 speeds, TKO is only 5 but is stronger. Would I develop gear envy? Comments, suggestion?

No driveshaft shortening is required on the TKO & it's pretty much the strongest manual trans on the market & it's a pretty straight forward install. I bought mine from Fortes, $2200 shipped to my door including speedo sensor, crossmember adapter, etc. Love it!

If you can afford it ($3000), you should buy the Richmond 6 speed, its the best manual transmission on the market. If you're like me, and don't have the money, I'd go with the Tremec. I'm just not much of a fan of the T56s.

JoeCool (dig the name!), you posted this a month ago so hopefully you're past this point but if not, here goes. The Tremecs are still basically Mustang tranmissions modified for our F-body's. So the shifter is in the stock mustang location, 2 inches or so to far forward for ours. Mine didn't come w/ the handle but I used my Hurst shifter & modded the handle. We took a 2" piece of steel, welded it to the shifter handle & bolted it to the shifter. It's right where it should be & w/ almost a year & 4K miles of beating on it, no problems! Enjoy!
