Rear gears Question??
This is probly a dumb question but if I change my rear gears to 3:23s instead of my stock 2:73 will I need a larger carrier also?? this is what I've been told, I thought of going to 3:08s also I just want to go the economical route and keep the stock carrier..... Thanks for any advice

I went from 273s to Richmond 373s (stock 7 5/8 10-bolt) and kept the stock diff. The ring gear is made thicker to avoid the use of spacers.

You can buy special 3.23 gears made for a 2.73 posi unit. But if you're getting stock gears from another car, you need the posi unit too. Your best and easiest solution is to get a set of 3.23's or 3.42's off a 4th genner, and the SLP take-off posi unit, and the correct speedometer gears, and have that installed. The SLP posi is a 3-series and will bolt right into your car with the 3.23/3.42 gears.

Really? Maybe they changed something. I've always known that 3.08 and lower is 2-series and 3.23 and higher is 3-series and you cant mix and match them.
