700r4 shift point question

I've noticed that if I go WOT at about 55+mph it will shift down once; rpm's at about low 3000's. It won't shift down to where the rpm is higher (in the powerband). If my start speed is low enough then it will downshift enough to put it in the powerband. I've adjusted the TV cable numerous times with no improvement. I'm planning on changing the wgts on the gov. to increase my WOT shift points from the current 4700rpm range to 5500rpms. Would that change help with the downshifts?????? After driving some other cars (a chrysler, ford crown vic.) I notice that they do shift down two gears if need be to put the rpms in the powerband. Or is this something that I need to get a programable shift kit for??? Any help greatly appreciated!

If you don't have the correct geometry at the carb/injector it won't work right. Next: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

Going higher on the WOT points will probably have an effect on this too but the others must be right first.

You will be able to get downshifts a little easier with the higher rpm governor as transfixleo says. You can use "white-out" to mark the cable for a reference point for T.V. cable adjustments. I hope this helps.

Don't bother trying to modify the governer weights.. the factory corvette governer is cheap and should raise your shift points to where you want once you adjust the tv cable right.

How much does a governor for a 700r4 cost? That might be the thing for me,I just want mine to shift at about 5500 rpms.
