T-5

Hi, I'm trying to find a performance transmission rebuild kit for my 86 z28. I have searched on google and i get nothing. I will be be putting in a higher HP 350 in it(305 in it right now). I have seen that some of you went with a TKO 600, it seems alot of jigger rigging to get it to work and plus alot of extra stuff to buy to make it right. I am probably looking at 300hp from the 350 that is going in the Z. Does anyone know a place that sells them or do they exist?

Re: T-5

300hp will be right at the limit for a T-5. The only other thing that u can basically "bolt in" is a 700r4 automatic tranny. If you buy the installation kit for the TKO tranny you wont have to rig anything, everything will be included. You can on the otherhand buy different parts to upgrade the TKO if you wanted. If your worried about the T-5 have it re-built with stronger gears and synchros. with 300hp/300 ft.lbs. (300 ft. lbs. for the sake of arguing) you shouldnt have a problem with breaking/stretching/cracking the case.

Re: T-5

ok! Maybe I wont have to rebuild the trans after all. Rebuilding it with stronger gears and such would definitely be the option for me right now. the TKO trans kit is pretty overkill for my car right now anyways and also for the pocket book.

Thanx.

its not the gears in these trannys that give out its the case. the case stretches or cracks before the gears actually let go.

Re: T-5

G-Force and Astro Performance make a T5 rebuild kit that is supposed to be stronger, but they rate it with a stock clutch and street tires. They dont guarantee it for racing.

Re: T-5

I didn't realize Astro Perf. was banned (because they advertised on here without being a Sponsor member, kind of dumb since they specifically made a kit for us TGO Members but anyway) here is their thread on their kit.
