Pilot bearing?

How should I grease my pilot bearing? It's already pounded in, should I fill the little space behind it with grease or just put a light coat around the needles?

Re: Pilot bearing?

No grease if it's a proper bronze bushing. If a magnet sticks to it, change it while it's still apart.

Just a light coat of grease on the needles and the tranny input shaft. When the tranny gets installed be careful that the alignment is very close. The needles are harder then the input shaft and can score it. So the initial alignment is critical.

This is correct if you're using the roller bearing style.

Get a good one from GM or NAPA. The cheap ones with iron in the them will wear the input shaft.

It is the bearing style or the bushing style? If the bearing style then a magnet will stick and it's all OK.

Re: Pilot bearing?

its a bushing. iv always been told a bearing wont work, plus im kinda scared if a bearing goes then it'll take out the input.
