Craked housing, was somthing installed wrong?
I pulled my old drag rear to swap gears(3:73 to 3:42's) and drop in my bird. After pulling the powertrax to swap the gears I noticed a huge crack in the pumpkin housing where it mounts to the shaft on the passenger side.
This rear end only had about 30 runs on it (3:73 too agressive). I dident see anything to indicate an improperly installed part so what gives??? Are these 10 bolt housing that weak?

85 Camaro, 355/400 "drag car" current DD 13.1@ 101mph on its last season run.
Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firebird, 355/350, as soon as the powertrax gets installed. "dyno time"

This is the '82 right? These early 7.5 10 bolts had a weakness in the housing where the torque arm bolts to it. There was a recall where the dealer installed something to help it. The main complaint was usually gear whine. I would say it was a weak housing, maybe also the torque arm attaching bolts where too tight. I wouldn't think it would break in a 13 second car.

I think the rear came out of a 85, just not sure. I dont no I put the powertrax in the 82 today no problems so. Its interesting about that recall though, I'll look into it.
Thanks!
