i finally got around installing my TV cable corrector. for those of you that dont know what it is. its basically a metal spring and plastic retainer that goes at the end of the TV cable and holds tension on the line to increase shift pressure at the transmission, giving you firmer quicker shifts. now my problem is that, when i tried to install it, i didnt have enough slack to fit it on. so i loosened the cable and fit it on. when i went to drive it the shifts were too late, it never wanted to leave first until i let off the pedal. so i adjusted it(i didnt follow the technical article on here since it didnt make sense to me and the picture didnt help since i have a TPI) anyways then the shifts got alittle better, but still rather late. so i adjusted it alittle looser, and now i have a good feel of shifts, but it feels just like before i installed the cable corrector. so my question is. do i have to adjust the cable like the tech article (something about a series of clicks? and opening to WOT?) or will loosening and tightening it eventually yield the same results?

 

Well i've never seen the corrector you speak of.. but in all my years of building 700r4 or 4l60s whatever you want to call them i've never needed such. even w shift kits or correction pkgs a stock cable adjusted correctly should do fine... The way i adjust the cable is to push the adjustment tab and slide the inner housing back basicly tightening the cable to it's max.. With the car OFF, STOMP the gas. you should hear it click. Now drive it. if it still winds too far loosen the cable 1 notch at a time till it's right on.. If that doesn't get it don't hesitate to pm me.. good luck.

 

well its not so much a corrector, its just a spring that goes on the end to give the cable alittle more tension and firm up your shifts

 

thats like jugleing dynamite and a lighter at the same time...if you want better shift get a transgo kit and have it installed....yeah its a little more expensive..but its cheaper than replacing a tranny...

 

I installed the transgo shift kit from pro built myself and i'm 18. My car shifts nice and firm now, really isn't very hard.

 

im sorry....once i looked into things a little more i had put the transgo reprogramming kit in mine when i rebuild it...big difference from the shift kit...

 

Hey guys. I never messed with a trans other then changing them, or putting clutches in. My 89 lo3 came with a shift kit in its 700r4. Only thing is that the shifts are not always the same. Some are like stock while others chirp the tire (open diff). Also, the stupid granny tranny shifts way too soon. Do I need the transgo kit? Anything else? Cars pretty much stock.

 

the pro built shift kit has the reprogramming kit with it also, and it was still easy to install just follow the directions...

 

i recomend a transgo kit for all 700r's they fix alot of the problems with them

 

well my transmission is recently rebuilt with a new vette servo. but i wanted to firm up my shifts alittle bit without going through the hassle of dropping the valvebody. and i heard good things about the tv cable corrector since some other members on here purchased it aswell. but basically my question was just how to adjust the tv cable. i havent gone to adjust it yet. but ill keep you posted on my results.
