Switching from gear oil to ATF in T5
Just got a T5. It's supposed to be an 87.
I drained gear oil out of it. Any problems with just re-filling it with ATF?

Re: Switching from gear oil to ATF in T5
If that year T-5 is supposed to run gear oil run gear oil. Only run ATF if the manual tranny calls for it. I have run ATF in a tranny that called for gear oil only to get rid of some varnish and clean it out real good. I drove easy and drained it out after 500 miles. That would be the only reason to put ATF if if it calls for gear oil. I dont remember what year they called for ATF in the T-5. I think it was 88 but could be wrong.

That's my point. I have no clue what it calls for and you'll get a different answer from everybody you ask.

Found the post your looking for. I remembered right. Non-world class T-5s (87 and earlier) use 70w gear oil. 88 on (WC T-5s) use ATF. Heres the post.
