How much whining is normal for a NWC T5?

Just finished my swap and the transmission whines pretty good, only while accelerating. It goes with the speed of the engine. I pulled away from somebody's house and they said they could hear it from the sidewalk as I took off.

I put ATF in it for lack of a clear answer on what it takes. Thinking about trying gear lube now, but I'd like to know if there is a serious problem here.

What all bearing and such did you put in when you installed it? What bushing? Or did you use whatever came with the tranny?

What do you mean? Did I open up the tranny and change the bearings before I installed it? No...

I'd think the problem is more serious than gear lube if the whine can be heard that far away (no noticeable whine in mine at all using Mobil 1 ATF). I assume you threw in a pilot bushing?

new pilot bearing and throwout bearing but that has nothing to do with it. The only time i hear the whine is accelerating through 1, 2, 3. (Not in 4 or 5.) Neither the throwout or pilot are are under any sort of use in these cnditions.

Hello
I'am having the same problem with my WC T-5.
Whining in the 1-2-3 and not in 4-5 gear.
Hope to get some info here.
Greetings from Holland

Time to tear it down and rebuild it. These transmissions wear out the pilot bearing for the main shaft pretty often. I've had several do this. I think you might find that this is your problem. When this happens you must replace the input shaft, main shaft and the pilot bearing.
