9 inch rear
If anybody is looking for a Ferd 9 in. rear i've found a almost perfect length to use. I'm getting a ferd 9 in. out of a '67 fullsize truck (F-100?). My rear measured a little under 55 inches from backing plate to backing plate. This rear in the truck measures 54 3/4 inches from plate to plate. I've got offset unilug wheels so it should work just fine. got a friend who is doing the welding/cutting and am getting a torque arm mount from currie. I'll let everybody know how it comes together!

Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
I'm installing one from a 1970 F-100. It was the perfect width and used the big bearings. All I needed was the housing. Everything else is changed. Center section, brakes, axles, mounts etc.
The only problem that I may see coming is the position of the pinion yoke. The 9" has the yoke more towards the passenger side than the third gen diff's is. I'm not sure how much of an offset there's going to be. The f-body diff is too far to the passenger side already so moving the 9" diff more towards center may even everything up.
A proper 9" housing will have a longer axle on the passenger side than the drivers to position the pinion closer to the center.

Did either one of you guys get the rear to work? I know where I can get one of those to. What about the torque arm? Is the housing cast iron? It didn't look like it was. If not I can weld something on there to make it work probably. Thanks.

The housing is steel so if you want to fabricate some sort of mount for the torque arm, it can be welded onto the housing. You could buy the torque arm mount from Currie like gremlin is going to do and just weld it on and solve all the difficulties of fabricating your own.
The center section is cast iron if that's what you were mentioning. You don't attach the torque arm to the center section. It won't last very long.

Count the teeth on the ring and pinion. 41 on the ring and 10 on the pinion is 4.10 etc.
When you order a "new" 9" from places like Currie, Moser etc, you can custom order them with whatever you want. Axle spline count, posi, spool, locker, and any gear ratio available for the 9" which is a very wide selection.
