installing TV cable

i am about to reinstall the kickdown cable on my 84 700-R4. Is there a special way this needs to be done or does it just have to be connected to the wirey thing in the tranny? I want to get it right because it looks like it'll be a major PITA to get at. Also Ive heard that a mis-adjusted one can fry the tranny. Thanks for answering my retarded questions, this is my first real old car. TIA.
