700r4 downshift problems

Hey guys below is a picture of my linkage. I've had my transmission built by a local guy but he never set up the linkage perfectly. it upshifts under part throttle fine but when you floor it in say first or second it shifts at like 3500 rpms. i tried moving the linkage around and it makes it shift later, but it also makes the part throttle shifts WAY later or i have to let off the gas for it to shift. do you guys have any ideas? thanks!

Re: 700r4 downshift problems

I've run into the same problem... I would almost swear it's that cable.. i've used that exact cable and the problem is the housing is too short at the base. you can max that cable out and it still doesn't max the plunger on the valve body out.. take the pan off the trans and have someone max the cable out too see for yourself... I had installed those on three cars before i figured out what the deal was...That cable is adjustable in length too, correct?

which cable did you get? yea its the adjustable one, the transmission guy put it on there. its pissing me off man im running 14.2s with 2.73 gears and its not even shifting hard. i could hit 13.9s by locking the torque converter up and by that thing shifting like it should be. it has corvette servos in it.

I've never seen an adjustable TV cable like that before - kinda defeats the entire purpose of the "automatic adjustment" of the TV cable in the mount. You have no idea with that cable if you have the right cable length, and thus the correct adjustment.

I'd get a fixed TV cable from the dealer for a TBI car - then you know you have the correct length.

when i did swap motors i had my original tv cable on and nobody could ever adjust it right either. it would never downshift, and when it would upshift it would chirp the tires every time.
