If your posi has 100,000 or more miles its probably pretty worn out. I see 38,000 miles in your sig and that is just for the engine??
When you replace the gears that is a perfect time to go ahead and replace the posi too.
The SLP take-outs from 4th gen cars are a little stronger then ours and for less then $100 its a pretty good buy.

If you have 2.77 gears it is a 9 bolt not a 10 and the parts are real expensive. Also it uses cones not clutches. miles@koolmeister.com sells new posi units for them and you will have to use a series 3 carrier which costs something like $445 from him IIRC. He also sells gears and install kits. On his web page he has info on prices and has package deals. It is www.koolmeister.com

Edit: Oh and if you decide to keep your gears I think that there is a tech article on shimming your 9 bolts posi actually it is at https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...tservice.shtml

To add to this, I have the 9-bolt BW with the 2.77 gear. My posi is about gone, too.
According to information on this website, the 10-bolts are clutch-based posi's and the 9-bolts are cone based.
Three weeks ago, I did a posi test (burnout) in my driveway in the dry. Only the passenger side tire was spinning. Yesterday in the wet, I took the car into the parking lot at work and did a burnout in the rain. Both tires spun in the rain. This tells me that the posi unit is still trying to function, but will not "be there" when I really need it...
Lastly, I have been told that the best way to test the posi unit is to jack the rear of the car and have someone else try to hold one rear wheel while you try to spin another. The stationary wheel should try to turn while you are turning your wheel. I have been told that the "posi action" should kick in at around 50 ft-lbs. I have not verified this number.
If you have the 9-bolt, good luck. I know that I have a serious problem.

well the thing with mine is i nkow its hard on them but i wanted to try and do a cookie like my friend did in his mustang and my car would get half way around and my rearend would kick out and burn the crap out of one tire and i thought that limited slip cars are suppose to be able to go completely around in a 360????but don't get me wrong i don't go out doin 360's all the time .from a dead stop my car smokes both tires. i have noticed too when i put the car in drive a big clunk sound comes from the back end so i am a bit worried.but let me know what you think.
