Deep-Pan and Cooler Worthwhile?

Hey folks! Would a deep tranny-pan and cooler be a worthwhile mod for a stock 700R4 backing up a bolt-on (226rwhp) L98 in a 1991 Formula?

I don't mind spending the money, but could always apply the cash to an intake upgrade if it isn't worthwhile...

Thanks in advance!

Unless you have the extra money I would not bother with those items on a street car. I have about similar numbers and don't have any problems, the stock tranny cooler works fine.

If you insist, don't even think about deep pan unless you want to loss the tranny due to it hitting the ground.

I have a deep pan and the car was not lowered, yet it was scraping on speed bumps. With the car lowered I'm most likely going to take it off.

Re: Deep-Pan and Cooler Worthwhile?

I didnt think the stock tranny cooler worked well at all. I put a temp gauge in for the tranny and found that the temp would creep all the way up to 250 (top of the gauge) and once it was that high it didnt really come down for a very long time. I put in a B@M supercooler that i got on Ebay for 27 bucks lol. I have not seen the tranny get above 185 even in stop and go traffic. If im just cruising along it hovers around 150-160. I wouldnt waste money on the drop pan but i would invest in a temp gauge and a cooler. Autometer makes a nice gauge. This is similar to what i have. I think mine might even be a pro comp but its last years model

You guys are awesome! The temp gauge is a great idea that I didn't even think of... It sounds like that would be the best starting-point to see whether I need to do anything. A tranny-cooler sounds like cheap insurance...especially if I go with a higher stall later on. Thanks again and feedback is always appreciated!

Gauge, cooler, and fan are where it's at!

Re: Deep-Pan and Cooler Worthwhile?

Yah. I think I will go with a nice, accurate gauge first and see where I'm at. I'm eventually going to get a mild stall, so this will be an ongoing project. Thanks for all the help! You guys/gals rule!
