New flywheel needed, but don't know how to choose??
Hey gang,
My clutch is slowly starting to slip. The car roughyl has 73,000 and the cluth is still original. I'm planning on changing it out with a zoom clutch kit, but I also want to get a new flywheel. Preferably a aluminum one. The only thing is which one. This is my first time with a standard, so I don't know, what type to get, i.e. ( long, diaphragm, or borg and beck), is it a 168 or 153 tooth, what diameter to get an dlastly, is it a 1-pc seal, with either a internal or external balance? This is my cars stats.
88' Iroc, 305 stock, T-5 world class. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanced!

Got to ask why you want an aluminum flywheel??? A heavier flywheel tends to keep the revs up better when you shift.... Aluminum flywheels are generally a race only type item... Heat on the street kills them. If you do get an aluminum one, then get the one that has the replacable face.
Guess I'm not sure what the tooth count is on a 305. You'll need the internal balance, external balance is for the 400 sbc and stroker engines using the same shaft. Might want to take a look at a place like Summit or Jegs and buy a clutch and flywheel specifically made for your car. Easy way to go and usually buying it as a package is a bit less costly then buying individual components...and the best part you'll get a clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate that are designed to work well together.
