manual steering box
I got a 1986 camaro z28 that i want to take my power steering out of and put a manual steering box in. I have seen one on classified that was a s10 but i was not sure if it would fit. What year and model car could i use to do this thank you

The s-10 box works fine if you remove the pitman arms and put the Camaro arm in the S-10 box. Be sure to keep track of where straight ahead is. White out can be used to help with this.

You want an 84+ S10 manual steering box. It has the 4 bolt top cover. The earlier ones have a 3 bolt top cover and although they will work, they're not an easy direct swap like the late model versions. Using the third gen pitman arm will keep the same steering geometry. Using the slightly shorter S10 pitman arm will give you a slightly wider turning radius.
The manual steering box was only available in 2.5L 4 cylinder S10's but not all 4 cylinder S10's had manual steering.
The pitman arm will only go on in 4 positions. If you don't have it lined up, you'll be out 90* which will be very obvious. The steering shaft also uses a master spline so there's no chance of having the steering off there either.
It's always best to have an alignment done anyway after changing steering components.
