Transmissions and Drivetrain Need help with your trans? Problems with your axle?

tranny only shifts abouv 4000-4500 rpm,,why????

tranny only shifts abouv 4000-4500 rpm,,why????

84 camaro with a 283 and a 200r4 tranny out of a monte,tranny only shifts over 4-4500 rpm,every gear is like that,it dont slip at all and will down shift when I have the cable hooked up.I disconnected the down shift cable and it makes no difference..how do I fix this???

any one know the problem?

First, that's not a downshift cable, it's the Throttle Valve cable, and if you undo it, you will kill the transmission. The TV cable is responsible for increasing the line pressure as you open the throttle. Second, the governor is what's making it upshift when it does. And while changing the governor to get it to hold each gear to 5500 rpm ( or 5000, or 6000, or whatever) is no trouble at all, first you need to find out what rpm your 283 runs out of breath at.
