SAGINAW 4spd manual?

hi i just bought a 1982 camaro with a 350 in it..these guys did not put this thing together right, as far as the tranny and clutch goes...but my question is, these gears are really tight, and it doesnt want to engage, but when i shut the car off an go through the gears, i can find them, but when its on, it wont engage into any other gear but reverse...They also rigged my clutch somehow, an it rubs against my oil filter, that now has a dent from it...

dont know if im makin sense, im just frustrated, and wanted to know what i should do with this tranny and clutch, or if i should invest in another?

and is there such thing as a SAGINAW tranny? they said it came out of a 67 but i dont think there right.. any help would be much appreciated.. i could post some pics tomaro

Re: SAGINAW 4spd manual?

Yes, the Saginaw 4-speed was used in many vehicles in the 60s and 70s.

If you can't engage gears with the motor running, then your clutch is not fully engaging.. It could be the linkage as you mention, is not correct and not allowing fully travel of the fork. This causes the clutch to slip and keep pressure on the trans gears, making it hard or impossible to engage.

Re: SAGINAW 4spd manual?

Saginaw trannys were use mostly in second gen camaros, far as i know first gen camaros would have had a Muncie. Post some pics and we can help you identifiy what tranny it is.

Re: SAGINAW 4spd manual?

Saginaw's used in alot of 60's and 70's cars.. The Muncie's were stronger transmissions put into the higher-TQ cars, the Saginaw's were more mainstream.

Re: SAGINAW 4spd manual?

yeah i did a little research last night, an like all you guys said, they were somewhat common in 60's and 70's cars. But the only couple pics i can take right now are of me looking down at the tranny from inside the car, i got it stripped out. I cant get under the car becuase of all this snow we got, 24 inches they say by tomaro, back to topic. i also got alot of wiring to do. Mph, rpm's, oil pressure, temperature guages dont work, only volts and fuel. an under the hood there are wires just out an about...this is my first muscle car so kinda new to some of this. I appreciate all the help an i will get some pics here in a few

Re: SAGINAW 4spd manual?

Where is reverse, left and FORWARD, or left and BACK?
Left and forward is the Borg-Warner T-10, left and BACK is the Saginaw. Those are the two factory choices for 1982 at least.

Yes, your linkage is out of adjustment. You need to LENGTHEN the rod there. Grab your haynes for instructions on how to do that.
