4th Gen Rear End Swap U-Joint Problem

Hello,

I swapped in a 4th Gen rear end out of a 2000 Z28 into my 91 GTA. I went to connect the aluminum driveshaft and noticed there is about 1/4 to 3/8" play side to side in the U-Joint. The u-joint is brand new. Is this normal or is something incorrect?

Thanks!
Josh

Is the aluminum drive shaft a factory part or is it after market? What u joints are in the shaft? The 4th gen rear end should have the 3R yoke. You might have a 1310 u joint in the drive shaft. Just a guess.

It is the factory aluminum driveshaft and I bought the U-Joint listed at Advance auto parts. Can I get a different U-Joint?

DO NOT run that. That is not normal in any way, shape or form. You got the wrong u-joint. I'm not sure if it takes a different u-joint for a steel vs aluminum shaft but I would try to get one for the model year that the driveshaft came from. It is possible that the u-joint is mislabled as well. Either way, take it back out and get the right one.

Thanks guys!

Well, I purchase the 1310 U-Joint.

Will this one work with my aluminum driveshaft:
