Stripped pan threads

I just recently had my flywheel tq converter and tv cable and shift cable replaced.. i was under the car and noticed the tranny bolts had fresh tranny fluid on them so i inspected the area a noticed when they changed out my shift cable they must have removed the cable bracket off the pan and stripped one on the bolt holes.. now the bolt threads in but wont tighten up. i noticed they come in thru the top.. is there a repair for this maybe a bigger bolt or longer bolt and a nut on top. just wondering if anyones ever experienced this before and what i can do its just one bolt and a minor leak

Re: Stripped pan threads

You have 3 options:
1) Use a nut bolt and washers like you mentioned.
2) Install a threaded insert (helicoil) to restore the threads to the same size as the factory bolt
3) Drill and tap the stripped hole for the next largest bolt that will fit.

it must have been the bolt because i went to home depot got the same size bolt and washer and it tightened up fine.. i dont know if i went to full torque cause i was a little hesitant but i got it pretty damn tight..
