Re: 9 bolt questions

Are you asking about the oil additive? You might get different answers for that, but my opinion is yes. It will pop and chatter when turning corners if you don't use the additive.

I don't understand the question about shimming the cones. What noise are you talking about?

Re: 9 bolt questions

Since they are a cone style, not a clutch style, they shouldn't need it.

Some people do, some don't. My FSM didn't call for it, so I didn't put any in & it's quiet as ever.

Re: 9 bolt questions

The Auburn usually requires 2 bottles of additive to get them to stop popping.

Im with you. I shimmed mine tight, used no additive and have not heard a peep from my dif. I read up on her all over the place and heard yes and no to the additive question. One person made a good point awhile ago though. All the additive is there for is to allow the posi to slip going around corners. The way i see it, if you use the additive it will just slip easier and wear faster. Thats just how i see it though. This is only for the 9 bolts however since i have no experience with normal clutch type posi's

Re: 9 bolt questions

My opinion is to not use it, the additive is a friction modifier used in clutch type LSDs to eliminate clutch hammering (which is partially caused by those preload springs), since ours use cones that rub into the cae, it's not really meant to spin and wear out since you can't replace the worn material like you can replace the clutch packs once they're worn out. Therefore you want them to grab and not spin under load.
