I changed my transmission (700r4) to a tko600 but I can not remove the cable that runs from underneath the steering wheel to the center console... Does anyone know how to remove it? I guess there is a connector but I could not figure how to remove it out?

 

I know the cable your talking about its i belive its for when the park lock so you can't take the car out of park unless the steering wheels is unlocked. there is no need for it in a manual car so i just cut it when i did my manual swap.

 

The reason that I want remove it safely is that I sold my old transmission to someone, and I want him to use the tranny with full capacity Do you know any way so that I can remove it safely?

 

When i traced mine back, it look like to me that it would require ripping the entire steering colum apart, i for one wouldn't want to do that. But can i make a suggestion, you could offter to trade the entire the steering column in stead of taking it out of the column its self. i think that would be less evasive than trying to remove the cable from the column, to me doesn't seem that important.

 

Or.... I can just say thay I do not have that kind of cable which cause not to take the car out from park if the steering wheel is locked, so that I can cut the cable

 

that also works. LoL.

 

You don't have to rip the whole column apart to remove that cable. It just attaches to the base of the column with a couple of tiny screws. I can't remember if they're phillips head or hex head, but it's really easy to remove. If you undo the 2 big nuts that hold the column up under the dash and just swing it down a bit you can easily see and remove the little screws that hold that cable on.

 

I couldn't find such screws. I'm not one for extra effort either. any way thanks for correcting me i didn't mean to misinform anyone i just pointed out what i say.

 

No worries. It may not even be the same deal on all years and columns, but I did find removable screws for that cable on my 89's column. There's also a stud/nut deal that holds the cable to the inside of the firewall in front of the floor console down by the gas pedal.
