Is my rear open or is my posi wornout

My question is that when doing a burnout sometimes the car will burn one tire and then other times it will burn both?

If it was an open is it possible for it to burn both tires?

Its an 86 irocz with tpi

When i jack the rear up the wheels spin opposite directions but if the posi is worn it would act like an open corect

Yes. The only dependable way to verify is to look. The following may be helpful:

Re: Is my rear open or is my posi wornout

Is it the original rear end? If it is, does it have the G80 code? If it does then it's either got the Auburn or Governor Lock. If it's an Auburn then it's worn out and needs to be replaced. If it's the Governor Lock then the gear on the governor is probably broke and won't allow it to lock up. The only way to find out is to remove the cover and inspect it.

Yes it is possible. I have seen many standard differentials that had been abused by doing one wheel burnouts that had almost welded themselved solid due to high heat and lack of oil. When you do a one wheel burnout the differential gears spin at 2 times the speed of the differential it's self. As it spins there is very little oil that gets into the differential and the gears run dry. One wheel burnouts are very hard on the differential and should be completely avoided.

Some examples of one wheel burnout damage.
