Question about diff cover?

Im getting ready to have 3.73 gears and a new eaton posi installed in to my car and a while back someone suggested that i also buy a new 10-bolt Diff cover for my car from T/A performance so it adds more structural support to the rear diffentrial.. Its like $140.00 for this cover and I was wondering if it is really worth buying or if I could just use my orginal diff cover. Or is there any other brand of diff cover that will add structrual support but cost less. I really would like to add some support but I dont want to spend so much on a diff cover...especially since im trying to save up for an engine swap hopefully later thios next year. Any suggestions?

Re: Question about diff cover?

If you are going to keep the weak 7.5 10 bolt then you better not try to cheap out on the rear end. You are going to need all of the strength that you can get out of it. Summit has a cover that's a little cheaper than the T/A Performance cover. Get good quality parts for the rear end. 1000 HP won't do you a bit of good if the rear end is broke.

Re: Question about diff cover?

I use the Summit cover, which is very nice. Pics can be seen in post #5 of the following link:

Re: Question about diff cover?

For a stock 305 L03, I wouldn't bother. If you start doing 5000 RPM clutch dumps on slicks... I might be concerned, but at this point the likelihood of you breaking your 10-bolt is pretty low.

I've heard of v6 S-10s grenading theirs, but I think you'll be all right. I dont think you're making enough power to worry about it. But it would be nice to have for the future if you feel like investing. But if you're ever gonig to make serious power, the 10-bolt wont cut it regardless of what pretty cover you put on it. Save that money for something else. $140 is a long wy for the $2k or so you need for a 9 inch or a 12-bolt, but it's still $140 wasted if you put a turbo LS1 on slicks and dump the clutch at 6k RPMs.
