Transmission slips even after rebuild
Ok so heres the story. My 89 (l98 tpi 700r4) had started slipping about last year, so I had taken it out had it rebuilt by a friend then put it in, turns out it wouldnt get overdive. So i took it out AGAIN and took it to a shop there in ft.lauderdale fl. and they said the ring that held the gears was put backwards, so i told them just do a full rebuild, so they did. 5 1/2 weeks ago that trans was put back in. I have done about 400+ miles on it without stepping on it or nothing. What i have realised is two issues. One i occasionally smell transmission fluid but never see it being on the floor(it could be because i have the center console top cover off as well as the rubber grommet for the shifter cable off), could that be a problem. And also today I decided hey lemme give it some gas, so i gave it about 3/4 throttle at about 30 or so mph and the trans slipped. So i thought **** this thing could be bad, to make sure i did a few other tests(letting the trans cool down a bit of course) i did an out the hole test launching it an all and it did fine(engine needs a tune up so it really wasnt impressive lol) shifted good and all, THEN i did a manual roll in second gear and it didnt seem to slipp. So what could be my problem? Could it be the tv cable? Please help this is my daily and i do not wanna do ANOTHER rebuild.
Re: Transmission slips even after rebuild
Set the TV cable according to the instructions (there are plenty on this site, or look in the manual if you have one). Once this is set correctly you can evaluate the performance of your transmission. The TV cable sets the line pressure and could cause your problem.
