What's up with this shifter?

Alright tranny gurus, I got a question for you all.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-M-M...Q5fAccessories

Taking a look at this shifter, he has it listed as part number 80693, which is a typo because looking at the manual in the picture it says part number 80692, which is correct for our cars. But this shifter looks different than the one that was in my car when I bought it. Look at the shifter. About halfway up, right below the stick that cage piece that surrounds the entire shifter. Mine doesn't have that, and I never remembered seeing another shifter with this part.

Is mine missing something, or is this an oddball/wrong shifter?

Are you sure? I never remember seeing a megashifter with that piece attached to it.

Re: What's up with this shifter?

If you are talking about the chrome piece where the stick and the T -lever stick out of then yes that is where the boot top attaches .

Re: What's up with this shifter?

I have (poorly) outlined the piece I am referring to. It is that entire bracket that surrounds the shifter.

Re: What's up with this shifter?

Here are some more photos of the actual shifter. I have never seen a megashifter quite like this before.

Re: What's up with this shifter?

That may be the design difference between the old and new Megashifters .
