T56..Name my problem

Whats the deal when the shifter in obviously in nuetral, but the car goes forward in all gears including reverse when clutch is released

What gives or what is not giving? Narrow list of problems or long list?

Re: T56..Name my problem

Was the shifter recently removed? It may not be back in the offset lever (shifter cup) properly. If not, the stock plastic shifter cup can crack and the shifter linkage won't correctly follow the shifter.

When you say it goes in Rev and all the forward gears, that's only after first putting the shifter into that gear, then pulling it back into Neutral, correct?

Re: T56..Name my problem

Wow, loved checking out the garage of yours there. I remember saving one of your early year photos as that is my car 'cept H code engine, trans, and clock from what I see. Code 26, nice.

Anyway, no to both your q's. Pro 5. in there. And car does NOT need to be in gear to propel forward. Example: CLutch down to floor(doesn't feel abnormal), start car, shifter tells me I'm in nuetral, but let clutch out and forward its goes. Thankfully I did not put it through garage wall.
Problem started on highway 2 days ago traveling at 70 in 6th. Hear a slight thud, no noticeable grinding, it loses power. It was towed home.

Re: T56..Name my problem

Has the fluid been checked or changed/topped recently? If the pro5.0 is not lying to you, then the only other thing I can think is that the needle bearing under the gears are dragging. (due to fluid loss, etc.)

I'd pull the pro5.0 and verify that the offset lever is really in neutral (easily rotate side-side), then repeat your tests.

There are individual components that would affect gear pairs (broken shift fork pads, bent forks) but not every gear.

What about your comment on it going into reverse? If you put the shifter in reverse, then back to neutral, will the car move in reverse?

If not and it's only forward, then you could have likely broken a shift fork, the extension shaft splines, or the 5/6 cluster gear.

Re: T56..Name my problem

Fluid at edge of hole. Pulled the shifter and pro tower as they call it today. Everything looked in order unfortunately. Moved side to side. It definitely sounds like it is engaging the trans properly.
Once again no to your question. No matter what gear (including reverse saw the backup lights on just to be sure) or if the shifter is in nuetral it pulls like it's in 2nd or 4th once the clutch is released.
Thanks for the diagnoses's. At least I can figure what, and how much I'm up against now.

Hey by the by, is the interior paint of your car floor more of smurf blue nearly teal color too?

Re: T56..Name my problem

Ok.. I misunderstood that from your first part.. Definitely have some internal trans damage going on then..

My interior is Gray.. It's faded to a light gray/blue..
