S10 5 speed swap?

I'm getting a 4.3 V6 and 5 speed tranny from a friend for free as long as I pull it. I'm not sure of the year, it's between 95-02. Would I be able to bolt the transmission up to my 88 camaro with a small block 350?

It'll bolt to the engine, but the shifter will be under the radio.

Re: S10 5 speed swap?

It'll fit the motor and should fit the trans X member, I have seen some with the bosses for the torque arm bracket as well but I dont think they all had them.

The S10 uses a different gear set though, the newer trucks use a slightly better set but still not ideal unless you car is grossly under powered.

Output shaft legnth? I dont know if it's the same, if not you'll need a custom driveshaft.

Spedo pickup is likely digital. You'll need to adapt it one way or another, just research the options.

I'm not sure if the newer trannies are upgraded to WC or not but I doubt it.

Also the actual F body trans is supposed to have a slight tilt built into it, the S 10 wont. This might make the instal difficult or even impossible.

If you need the pedal set I can get one from a camaro localy.

The tail housing on the S10 transmission is completely different. The shifter is further forward.

The one in the middle is a Fbody trans, the one closest is a S10.

Here's another...

Re: S10 5 speed swap?

should I just sell the 5 speed out of the S10 and try to find one that came out of a camaro?

Something like that. If it's 95 or newer it's probably not even a T5. Honestly there aren't many manual transmissions that make sense to retrofit into our cars. The easy ones are the T5 and the T56, and even then they need to be from F-body cars to be a bolt in.

Drew, that image is from a page about swapping tail housings you know. :P
cept it is the reverse of what would happen in this thread.

Now, the only decent reason I could see someone doing this sort of thing for would be if they had a ruined T5 in their camaro/firebird and already had; or could get for free a T5 from another vehicle with the same number of splines/etc
