88 posi unit 10 bolt chunk swap

88 posi unit 10 bolt chunk swap

I have a 1988 10bolt rearend with disk breaks, can I put the chunk into my 1985 Iroc Z so I don' t have to swap the whole rear end? Thanks

just as easy to swap the whole rear then do all the work with a gear set up.

You really have to pull the rear to set up new gears anyway.

Also the 88 might be a 28 spline carrier instead of your 26 spline in the 85 carrier.

The '88 should be 26 spline too. You don't have to remove the rear end to change the differential. I've rebuilt several of these under the car.

One thing that you must know. You must know what the gear ratio is in both rear ends. The 2.41 to 3.08 gears use a 2 series differential and the 3.23 to 3.73 gears use a 3 series differential. If these rear ends don't have the same series differential then the swap won't work.

Opps, Sorry I guess the 28 spline started in 89. But he should be OK if he changes out the Carrier and gears or what he is calling a "chunk".
